In the interwar period, Orion tripled its production and introduced new confectionery. One of them was the still popular Kofila bar. It is from this famous era, when Czechoslovakia was a chocolate power, that the period documentary, which was shot in 1933 by cameraman Jaroslav Tuzar, also comes. It takes us to the now non-existent Vinohrady factory complex and introduces us to the then production of chocolate and pralines, from the harvest of cocoa beans in Africa to the packaging and shipping of finished products. The production process itself has undergone few changes, but the machines in which beans are sorted, roasted, shelled, pulverized, mixed with sugar and possibly milk have changed considerably.
The famous history of this factory ended with its nationalization in 1952, when production was relocated to the RUPA company in Modřany. On the contrary, the national enterprise Biogena and the Institute of Sera and Vaccines were located in the building of the former Vinohrady Orionka. When companies moved out of the building in 2000, they were sentenced to demolition. This took place in 2008. In 1992, the Orion brand itself was taken over by the Swiss multinational company Nestlé, which concentrates production outside Prague. The tradition of the Prague chocolate industry thus already belongs to the past, which is only reminded by old photographs and this archival document.
